Discovering Omkareshwar City
Omkareshwar, also referred to as Omkar Ji, holds significance with its three sectors:
Delving into History
According to historical accounts, the governance of Omkareshwar was under the Bhil rulers. Later, it came under the control of the Paramara dynasty of Dhar, the sultans of Malwa, and the Scindia dynasty of Gwalior, eventually falling into British hands in 1824.
The final Bhil ruler, Nathu Bhil, engaged in a dispute with the prominent priest of Omkareshwar, Dariyav Gosain. Seeking support against Nathu Bhil, Dariyav Gosain wrote to the king of Jaipur, who dispatched Bharat Singh Chauhan, the subedar of Jhalrapatan in Malwa, to aid him. Eventually, this dispute concluded with the marriage of Nathu Bhil’s sole daughter to Bharat Singh’s descendants, who came to be known as Bhilalas. The descendants of Bharat Singh Chauhan ruled Omkareshwar for an extended period.
